Topics discussed included The History and Technologies of LEDs, Integrating LEDs into Luminaires and Drivers and Dimming.  This was followed by a thought provoking comparison of current LED fixtures.  Thank you to Jovani Torres- Cree, Steve Walczak- Sternberg, Al Marble-Phillips-Advance for graciously presenting these topics.

Kurt Versen Factory Trip

Bev McMurray and Tim McCray hosted Katie Green (Derek Porter Studio) and Molly Oller (George Butler & Assoc.) at the Kurt Versen factory. In addition to learning about the superior quality of the KV downlights and reflectors, the group got a look at the anodizing process used on the reflectors. Kurt Versen treated the team to an extra day of hotel stay which allowed them the chance to tour New York City, shop, and have lunch at Tavern On The Green!

Frozen Fun at a Chiefs Game

Jeff Clark of Mercer-Zimmerman hosted Steve Vo, Bill Nance, Nick Moore, Zac Harris, and Leonard Ake of P.E.C. at the Chiefs game versus the Cowboys on October 11th. In addition to braving the cold weather, there were a few interesting adventures… Let’s just say that on the way to the Argosy Casino on Saturday evening the group managed to get a good look at an area of Kansas City that most people wouldn’t venture into during the day, much less late in the evening. There were a few humorous and rowdy Chiefs fans sitting nearby at the game and everyone had a good time. Frozen toes included.

In an announcement made in their newsletter, Elliptipar/Tambient revealed that they have received WBE Certification from teh WBENC.  Here is their announcement:

WBE Certification

In an ongoing effort to bolster our credentials and stand out from the competition, our company has been certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the nation’s largest third-party certifier of businesses owned and operated by women in the United States.

Certified WBENC Women's Business Enterprise
To become certified, the WBENC visited our headquarters to conduct a site inspection and in-depth review of the entire business. Upon careful review, the WBENC confirmed that we are at least 51 percent owned, operated and controlled by a woman and worthy of this esteemed certification.

Receiving this certification is critical for our business development efforts. More than 700 companies and government agencies in the United States look for the WBENC seal of approval before signing a contract with a new supplier due to the increased focus on supplier/vendor diversity programs. Diversity is very important to us and our customers, and in turn, we are glad to add this seal to our arsenal of credentials for companies and government agencies seeking a strategic lighting partner.

Be on the look-out for the WBENC seal on company materials moving forward.

Fun Project!

Monica Santos of Antella Consulting Engineers, Inc. recently worked on some custom seating in the courtyard of the Rogers High School East Campus in Rogers, Arkansas.  Antella was the lighting deisgner for the courtyard and other public spaces while the architect for the project was Hight Jackson Associates out of Rogers, Arkansas.

For the seating in the courtyard, Monica designed square concrete cubes with IO Lighting’s step light fixtures installed on the sides to provide a unique look and low-level lighting.  Great creativity!

Thank you to everyone who has helped to make our monthly luncheon series at Brio a success!  We’re taking a break during the month of August, but we’ll be back in September with what we think is an exciting new local manufacturer - Structura.

Their offices and manufacturing facilities are in Olathe, KS.  Check their website for more information:  www.structura.com.

Happy Belated 4th of July!

We were having a bit of a blog problem last week, so we didn’t have a chance to post a pre-4th message.  We hope that everyone had a fun and safe weekend.

Welcome to the 2nd half of the year!
